On August 3, defenseman Jakob Chychrun underwent successful knee surgery, leaving the Coyotes blueline without him indefinitely.
While Arizona will provide an update on Chychrun’s status as training camp gets underway September 14, head coach Rick Tocchet said the 19-year-old will play for the Coyotes in the 2017-18 season. He told SiriusXM NHL Network Radio last Friday that, though he doesn’t know the time frame of the recovery, it won’t be a year.
Chychrun even took to twitter to spread the good news:
In his rookie season, Chychrun recorded 7 goals and 13 assists over 68 games. While losing him for any amount of time is a huge blow to the Coyotes defense, it’s promising to hear he will play this season.
