The Tucson Roadrunners returned home Monday night to face off against the San Diego Gulls again, who they defeated 4-2 Saturday in San Diego.

Halfway through the first the Gulls got out to a 1-0 lead with a goal from Giovanni Fiore just as their power play expired.

With 30 seconds remaining in the first, Dylan Strome, who had two goals against the Gulls Saturday, evened the score with his 17th goal of the season. 17 seconds later, the Roadrunners struck again, taking a 2-1 lead on Mike Sislo‘s 11th goal of the season. dyl.jpg

Lawson Crouse extended Tucson’s lead midway through the second and added to it once more early in the third, making it 4-1. San Diego answered on the power play with a goal from Kevin Roy, cutting Tucson’s lead in half.

San Diego scored once more but couldn’t quite complete the comeback as an Andrew Campbell empty net goal sealed the win for the Roadrunners. crouse.jpg

Goaltender Hunter Miska earned his 11th win of the season, stopping 20 of 23 shots. Defenseman Joel Hanley recorded three assists and was the first star of the game.

Tucson has earned at least a point in their last 5 games against San Diego (4-0-0-1) and lead the I-8 Border Trophy contest 9-6.

The Roadrunners once again take on the Gulls on Wednesday at 10:00am in a rare weekday matinee.
