After Friday night’s overtime win over Rockford, the Roadrunners looked to carry that momentum and stay unbeaten in regulation.

Things picked up where they left off for Tucson as a little over five minutes into the first period, Jens Looke gave the Roadrunners a 1-0 lead on the power play with his third goal of the season.

The lead was short lived, as Luke Johnson evened things up a midway through the first.

The Roadrunners reclaimed the lead as Lane Pederson found the back of the net for his first goal of the year.

Entering the second period with a one goal lead, Trevor Murphy promptly added to it, making it 3-1 Tucson.

A series of penalties led the IceHogs to find themselves with a two man advantage midway through the second. Jordan Schroeder capitalized on the 5-on-3, bringing Rockford within one and 22 seconds later, Anthony Louis scored, tying things at three a piece.

Early in the third, Rockford once again capitalized on the power play, taking a 4-3 lead on a goal from Terry Broadhurst.

Tucson could not find the back of the net to even things up on their own 5-on-3 late in the third. An empty net goal from Tyler Sikura sealed the victory the IceHogs and handed the Roadrunners their first regulation loss of the season.

“We got a lot of opportunities 5-on-5,” forward Lane Pederson said in regards to Tucson’s third period, “at the end of the day, we lost the special teams battle but we’ll regroup, we’ll get back to work this week and put a good 60 minutes and solid effort next weekend.”
